Our Story

Our Story and Vision

Founded by Pomona’s Inaugural Poet Laureate, David Judah Oliver, LionLike (LIOTA) is dedicated to engaging both educators and students through creative arts education that supports academic goals and standards. With a strong emphasis on social-emotional learning and pathways for growth, we prioritize not only artistic skill but also personal development. Our instructors—professional, award-winning artists and educators—are committed to fostering talent and self-expression in vibrant, inclusive environments through the use of interdisciplinary arts.

OUR PROGRAMS

The Pride Program
Our flagship 13-week multidisciplinary program helps students unlock creativity through poetry, songwriting, music production, and communication. Alongside artistic training, participants build literacy and confidence that encourage self-expression, resilience, teamwork, and long-term personal and academic growth.
Mindful Me
Designed for elementary classrooms, this program uses games, stories, and teamwork to build emotional intelligence. Students learn to communicate clearly, express feelings, ask questions, listen actively, and develop empathy—helping them create healthy connections and better understand themselves and others.
Lions Behind Bars
This program empowers incarcerated youth and adults to turn self-expression into hope. Through poetry, songwriting, and storytelling, participants discover healing, strengthen literacy, and build confidence while creating original works that amplify their voices, share their journeys, and foster resilience for the future.
Life Ready
This course prepares young adults with skills for independence and success. Students build financial literacy, master budgeting, understand credit and debt, and develop time management, resume writing, interview skills, and entrepreneurial thinking, gaining confidence to navigate life beyond the classroom.
